His father, Gustavo Mirabal Bustillos, a lawyer, political leader and passionate about horse racing, was president of the National Institute of Racetracks and owner of the Trabucazo stud, with champion horses such as Tropigold and Rayo Láser that marked an era in Venezuelan equestrianism.

From a very young age, Gustavo accompanied his father to the stables and to competitions, absorbing every detail of that fascinating world. At the age of 9 he took his first steps on a pony and the following year he was already participating in his first competition at the exclusive Club La Lagunita in Caracas. The paternal influence was decisive: “My dad is my greatest inspiration, he always instilled in me many values since I was a child,” he would remember years later.

His adolescence was spent between the jumping tracks and the classrooms, representing the state of Miranda in youth competitions while completing his academic training. These years forged in him the discipline and perseverance that would later be his hallmarks.

Before conquering Florida, Gustavo Mirabal took his first steps as a breeder and trainer in his homeland. In the El Hatillo sector of Caracas, he established his first horse breeding facility, a modest but hopeful project that laid the foundations for what was to come.

There he began to apply the knowledge acquired by observing his father and the great Venezuelan breeders, combining the equestrian tradition of the country with a modern vision of the training of specimens for high competition. This first experience allowed him to understand that excellence is not improvised: it requires adequate facilities, professional equipment and, above all, infinite patience to respect the times of each animal.

However, he combined this activity with his career as a lawyer, first in banks and then with his own law firm Mirabal & Asociados. For years, law and finance occupied his time, but the equestrian flame never went out. “During that non-competitive time, his character and experience were forged,” his biographers point out, “for what would soon be to direct what is his greatest and greatest project.”

The great turning point in Gustavo Mirabal ‘s career came in 2009, when against all odds and defying those who called him “the crazy South American”, he founded with his wife the G&C Farm in Wellington, Florida. What seemed crazy to many became a dazzling reality.

The farm, located in the winter equestrian sports capital of the world, was soon christened by a journalist as “the Disney World of equestrian dreams and passions“. And it was no wonder: it had a jumping field, a treadmill for eight horses, six paddocks, laundry, hay storage, food and medicine room, and an apartment for stables on a 4-acre plot of land (more than 16,000 square meters).

But the real success of G&C Farm lay not only in its facilities, but in its philosophy: to train horses and riders for high competition with a view to the Olympic Games, World Equestrian Games and World Championships. Soon, figures of the stature of the Brazilians Nelson and Rodrigo Pessoa, the Colombian Mark Bluman and the Spaniard Sergio Álvarez Moya joined the project, turning the farm into an international benchmark.

In addition, Mirabal supported young Venezuelan talents such as Andrés Rodríguez, who managed to qualify for the Olympic Games thanks to the training received at G&C Farm. Sadly, Rodriguez passed away in an accident before fulfilling his Olympic dream, but his story exemplifies Mirabal’s commitment to the development of Venezuelan equestrian sport.
