Recipes for horses

Summer is approaching and with it the hottest season of the year, therefore, today we bring you this great recommendation.

Our first recipes are a fruit popsicle and carrot balls. Fruit popsicle is very easy to make as well as refreshing.

Surely your horses will love it.

Don’t let the heat get hot and your horses thirsty… Pamper them!

Recipes #1 Carrot balls for horses

To prepare the first of two recipes, the carrot balls, you will need several ingredients, which will be described below:

Ready to cook? Here we go!

Ingredients

  • 2 cups grated carrots (3 or 4 large carrots)
  • 1/4 cup of molasses (we can also use honey)
  • 2 tablespoons of oil
  • A teaspoon of salt
  • One Cups of flour
  • 1 cup of oatmeal

You can also add a little coconut to your liking

Preparation mode

Once all the elements are assembled, let´s do it!

First we must preheat the oven to 176º and, in the meantime, mix all the ingredients in a large bowl, no matter where we start. Order does not alter the result!

The ingredients must be mixed well until a paste is a little sticky. When it is ready, we will proceed to make balls, we can shape them with our hands or, if we do not want to get too dirty, we can make them with two spoons.

In case you do not want to get dirty, wear gloves! The gloves help you maintain hygiene and you do not get dirty.

Once the balls are placed in the tray (do not forget the oven paper) we proceed to put them in the oven for 20 or 25 minutes, until they are golden brown.

When they are ready, take out the tray and let them cool, if they are a little soft, do not worry, next time they will come out better. Once cooled down, the moment of truth arrives, we have to give them to our four-legged culinary critics.

Recipes #2 Fruit Popsickle for horses

For this summer time when the heat is getting hotter and our horses want to stay fresh, I have the solution: A Fruit Popsickle. This is the best of recipes to summer time.

What is a Fruit Popsickle? It is like a fruit ice cream, cold, refreshing, ideal to give as a reward to our equines.

To prepare this delicious dessert you need fruits, molasses, water, a freezer and that’s it!

Ingredients:

  • Various fruits such as apples, peaches, Paraguayan, and even carrots work well
  • 2 tablespoons of molasses
  • 1 glass with water

If you do not have molasses you can use Gatorade or another drink with electrolytes

Preparation mode

To start cut the pieces of fruit into pieces by removing the bones and seeds. Once done, grab a glass with hot water and mix the molasses in it until it is well uniform.

Having already cut the fruit and having the mixture of water and molasses made in the glass, we take the container and throw the fruit and liquid and put it in the freezer until it cools down well (if you like, leave it a whole day).

The result is a block of very refreshing fruit that will undoubtedly make your horse feel flattered.

  • 1/3 cup molasses

In a large cup, mix the carrot with the bran, molasses, sweet feed and cob grains until uniform.

Recipes: #6 Cookies!

Cookies are delicious and horses know it that’s why they enjoy them so much.

The most amazing thing about making cookies for your horse is that you can combine it with everything you want, as long as the horse can eat it.

Ingredients:

  • 2 apples, or 3-4 carrots (the amount of fruit should be about one cup, once grated). You can also use a little of each and mix it.
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 cup oatmeal
  • 1/4 cup molasses or honey
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 spoon of water

Preparation mode:

  1. Wash the carrots and apples first.
  2. Next, with a grater, grate the apples and carrots.
  3. In a large bowl pour the flour, oatmeal and water.
  4. Mix it with your hand until a dough is made, and if it sticks a little place more flour.
  5. Pour the carrots and grated apples into the dough and mix everything again.
  6. Then pour the honey and mix everything with a spoon.
  7. Let the dough sit in the fridge for a few minutes (it will be easier to handle).
  8. Remove the tray from the oven and coat it with baking paper or aluminum foil. Preheat the oven to 250º.
  9. When you have everything ready, with molds, or with a spoon, make small piles and place them on the baking paper.
  10. Bake at 250º, for about 30-35 minutes (be careful, this depends on the oven). They must be hard, but without being burned.
  11. They are already done! Now you just have to let them rest, cool and let them become a little harder. The next day you can give them to your horse.

Recipe #7: Oatmeal and Mint Cookies

Oatmeal is one of the favorite ingredients of horses, providing you with the nutrients and fiber you need.

Mint gives it a refreshing and herbal touch that your horses will love.

Enjoy making this recipe and make your horse enjoy your company more.

This recipe is for small amounts. If you want to prepare more quantity just multiply the ingredients.

With nothing else to add (except for mint) let’s start

Ingredients

  • 1 cup of flakeed oatmeal or oatmeal. You can choose the oatmeal that your horse usually eats.
  • 1 cup wheat flour, preferably whole wheat
  • 4 tablespoons molasses.
  • 15 mint leaves. You can also choose to add sugar-free mint candies to replace mint leaves.
  • 100ml of water or a quarter cup. If they are very dry you can add a little more water.

For larger amounts, you can replace the mint leaves with a drop of peppermint oil.

Peppermint oil is more concentrated. We only recommend peppermint oil when you are going to make at least twice the amount of this recipe.

You can add some regular wheat flour if you don’t have whole wheat flour.

Whole wheat flour helps prevent equine colic.

Preparation mode:

  1. Mix the water and oatmeal in a container
  2. Remove the oatmeal and water mixture until they are completely integrated and the oats begin to fall off.
  3. Crush the mint leaves to form a relatively uniform mass.
  4. Add the crushed mint leaves and stir until uniformed.
  5. Slowly add the molasses by mixing steadily until even. It will be a little sticky from molasses, it is normal.
  6. At this point add the wheat flour, normal or whole. This will give better consistency to the cookies
  7. Spread on a tray and you can give it various shapes to make them more fun for your horse.
  8. Bake for 10 to 20 minutes to dry the mixture.
  9. Let cool to room temperature.

You will get some spectacular cookies to reward the horse with a fresh touch.

Recipe #8: Oatmeal cookie, carrots with garlic

  • 1 clove of garlic
  • 1 cup carrots cut into pieces.

Preparation mode:

Chop the carrots and garlic clove 3 sec. in speed 5.
