Przewalski horse breed: Chernobyl’s horse

Rate this post

It seems contradictory to speak of Chernobyl as a refuge for endangered animals. In this sense, this city was the victim of a nuclear disaster in 1986. Nowadays, a few animals live there. Among them The Przewalski Horse Breed: Chernobyl’s horse.

Chernobyl has become a refuge in the middle of an unhealthy environment for any living being.

However, what still leaves people surprised is the resilience of these animals.

The ability to move forward in an environment of exclusion makes Przewalski horse an exceptional animal.

Przewalski horse: The Chernobyl horse is one of the species of horses that is in danger of extinction. In this sense it is necessary to take actions to protect not only this breed are all the wildlife that makes life there.

These Przewalski horse are native to Mongolia and considered wild.

Recently, they discovered 11,000 images of the Przewalski Horse Breed: Chernobyl’s horse. These horses use abandoned structures as shelters.

Chernobyl Przewalski horse shelter

An event that shocked public opinion on April 26, 1986 was the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. This disaster had lethal consequences. It was also the direct cause of thousands of cancer cases and a natural catastrophe.

This place is not suitable for humans to inhabit, so three decades later there are only animals that see it as their refuge.

Among the animals that live there are the following:

  • Przewalski horse breed, bears, hares, wolves,
  • In addition, there are lynxes, bison and about 200 species of birds that still remain in this place.
  • On the other hand, animals such as deer, elk, wild boar, red foxes, raccoon dogs and bats among others have been discovered.

The Przewalski Horse, is a specie that comes from Central Asia, Mongolia. This is the only wild horse breed, not domesticated, that remains on the entire planet.

The last century almost disappears. However, apart from Chernobyl, today only a few specimens of this equine remain in Mongolia, China and zoos.

In this sense, scientists at the University of Georgia consider it a good place to keep track of them.

There they can be monitored for conservation.

The Chernobyl facilities are located on the border between Belarus and Ukraine.

Abandoned structures in Chernobyl

As a result of the nuclear accident that occurred more than thirty years ago in the city of Chernobyl. This place is no longer suitable for humans to live there. In this sense, it is the animals that now make life in the ruins that were left …

Today, abandoned structures are a fundamental bulwark for studying the population of the Przewalski Horse Breed: Chernobyl’s horse.

The team carrying out this experiment focuses on recording basic data such as:

  • The age of these animals
  • Sex ratio
  • Population size among others

In order to perform these annotations continuously, the team in charge of this investigation installed cameras. This in order to record and see the behavior of the Przewalski Horse breed: Chernobyl’s horse.

However, Przewalski horses breed make use of this spaces to sleep, rest, breed and protect themselves from insects.

On the other hand, other animals also live there, such as brown hares, red deer, elk, wild boar, red foxes, raccoons, lynx, wolves, bats and birds.

With the records that are currently being kept is a breakthrough in the investigation. They must also specify exactly how many specimensn of Przewalski horse breed live there.

In this way, a preservation plan can be designed to help save these horses.

Inbreeding in Przewalski horse breed a real problem

By 2004, a plan was initiated and 36 wild horses were taken to the Chernobyl exclusion zone.

These ecosystems began to recover somewhat. The advantage is that the presence of humans there is almost nil

Then in 2008, its population doubled. However, since there are very few specimens, there is a problem to deal with. This problem is inbreeding. Therefore, to verify that this situation is happening, genetic studies began to be carried out. In this sense, abandoned structures are a good point to carry out this research.

In this regard Peter Schlichting expressed the following:

«When the size of a population is small, it lacks a large part of its genetic diversity» Peter Schlichting

This is one of the greatest concerns of experts, the problem of inbreeding. As it brings genetic problems in the Przewalski horse breed: Chernobyl’s horse.

On the other hand he also said the following:

“The objective of conservation programs is to maintain that diversity as much as possible and avoid inbreeding. Ensuring that the population can withstand changes in the environment and survive in the long term » Peter Schlichting

The ongoing plan is to maintain the good condition of the Przewalski horse breed: Chernobyl’s horse. This in order that these animals someday leave the long list of animals in danger of extinction.

In summary:

The Przewalski Horse Breed: The Chernobyl horse, makes life in this region just like other animals.

The experiment that takes place there is focused on the conservation of the breed.

By way of reflection the human being is the main threat of animals that are in danger of extinction. We must take action, otherwise future generations can only see these beautiful animals in photos.
