Camels are a symbol of desert areas, as this is the ideal environment for these creatures. This is because the reservoirs of water in your body are able to travel vast distances without ingesting water. This is why in some countries with deserts and tradition of camels, the famous events of camel racing are held.

Camels also represent a symbol in the United Arab Emirates, as camel racing specifically in Dubai.

As well as horses, camels have had a relevant role providing company and as a means of transportation for people who live in desert areas.

This animal has great relevance in Dubai since it is the protagonist of national sport in the region.

A little about these amazing animals: The Camels

Camelus or Camels are a genus of artiodactyl mammals in the family Camelidae.

These include the three living species of the family originating from the Old World. Among the species we can mention the following: Camelus ferus, Camelus bactrianus both with two humps and Camelus dromedarius or dromedary, with only one hump.

The hump of the camels protrudes approximately 75 cm. This part of the animal is a fat deposit.

This mammal is capable of consuming 200 liters of water in a single intake. But with this it should be noted that this animal can last several days without drinking water.

Camels have two layers of thick lashes to protect their eyes from the sand.

These mammals have the ability to eat prickly branches without hurting their mouth.

Camels can run 65 kilometers per hour on short races. Similarly they can maintain a speed of 40 kilometers per hour.

The life expectancy of the camel varies between 40 and 50 years.

Camel racing in various countries of the world

Camel racing is a sport in which competitors perform  a race that they must complete riding on camels.

This famous event takes place in various countries such as: Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Australia and Mongolia.

Camel racing, like horse racing, are competitions where you bet and it is also a tourist attraction.

Camels are often ridden by jockey boys. However, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar have banned chores by children, this is due to the controversy that was generated at some point.

Today camels in Dubai and Qatar are driven by robots that act as rider

In Australia a large camel race is regularly organized in Alice Springs. Camel racing in Australia is a curiosity and in this country if bets can be placed.

The race is held every year, and together with the race fairs and an open-air market are organized.

Dubai camel racing

Camel racing in Dubai is very popular and they are also known as “the sport of sheikhs”. This is an activity indigenous to Dubai.

Camel racing is a very unique event since these animals are capable of reaching 65 kilometers per hour.

It should be noted that these animals are not ridden by any rider. Now it is a novelty since they are led by aluminum robots

These robots direct the steps of the camels and also beat them with a whip if they consider that they are not keeping the rhythm that they should.

The robots that hold the camel’s reins in these traditional competitions have a head and a thorax with two small arms.

The arms fulfill the function of carrying the whip and the other the reins.

On the other hand, they have a gps that transmits the speed and pulsations of the animal.

Characteristics and singularities of camel racing

Camel racing in Dubai have the following characteristics:

  • These robots are designed to tolerate the rough movements of animals.
  • It should be noted that those who control these robots are the owners of the camels. To do this, vehicles are positioned in their vehicles to control these robots.
  • In addition to the prompts, they also dedicate words of encouragement to the animals to motivate them in this strong competition.
  • The distance of the race varies between four and ten kilometers, and up to 70 camels can come into play.
  • To attend this show it is advisable to use binoculars, which will allow you not to lose detail of everything that happens on the track.
  • Admission is free and you can go with casual clothes, but photography cameras are totally prohibited in this place, as well as betting.
  • The ideal month to enjoy the most important events of camel racing is April, because here the animals that have performed best throughout the season.

These races are usually 4 to 10 kilometers. Although bets in the United Arab Emirates are prohibited, in other countries betting is one of the elements that accompany the races.

Even though gambling is prohibited, some risk breaking the law in Dubai and are heavily punished. That is why we advise you to follow the strict rules of the emirate and respect its culture.

Robotic riders are also part of horse racing in Dubai but elsewhere they continue to be performed with human riders.

A show

In Dubai, camel racing starts first thing in the morning, around 07:00 AM and ends around 08:30 AM.

It is a real show where camels are the protagonists of such a feat.

Therefore, it is a pleasure to watch the camels run along the track at high speed.

These animals make an incredible noise when passing in front. It should be noted that these animals are handled with a robot.

Camels are followed by cars, parallel to the race track of camel racing.

For this reason, from the cars using a mobile device, the guards give little lashes to make them run faster.

Camel racing includes the number ranging from 15 to 70 camels or more.

From camels to drones

Camel racing is a popular tradition of the past, but Dubai is adept at advancing into the future.

The first World Drone Prix, the world’s largest drone race, was held in spring 2016.

32 pilots participated in the event. Their mission was to steer their mini aircraft through terrain full of obstacles and traps.

A million dollars awaited the winners of this competition. The fourth part of this award was received by the first pilot to make his drone reach the goal.

Horse racing in Dubai: Tradition, innovation and future hand in hand.

Camel racing is one of these traditions that remains intact in Dubai. In turn, there are other countries with desert areas that also practice these activities with camels.

These traditions coupled with the prohibition of the use of children as riders in racing and the introduction of robotic riders are a sign that tradition can be combined with modernity. Definitely a symbol of what Dubai means.

Gustavo Mirabal Castro and his wife Carolina Chapellín have enjoyed this popular Dubai tradition. In this way they are entering and enjoying the Arab culture as well as its traditions.

A new paradigm

New normality Post coronavirus

Jul03

Currently we are living a situation that has taken us by surprise and that is that the coronavirus is here to stay a long time. Consequently, we have to face a new normality. Although we must admit that we do not like it, we must take all preventive measures.

The coronavirus carries 10,004,643 confirmed cases until Sunday, June 28, of which 499,296 died. In Latin America it is where it is affecting in greater proportions.

Although the countries of Europe are already doing the de-escalation phases, they should remain alert to the possibility of a coronavirus outbreak, as has happened in Beijing – China.

The new normality Post coronavirus makes us rethink how we are living, how we perceive the world. It also makes us review our belief system, that is, how we personally assume this difficult situation.

Preventive measures to combat coronavirus

Let us remember that the coronavirus is still present in our lives and that we live a reality that we must face.

For this we must act intelligently, and with empathy to protect ourselves all.

The main measures to take into account are the following:

  • Good hand hygiene is essential, so wash with soap and water should be applied. Hydroalcoholic solutions with virucidal capacity also work.
  • Maintain a safety distance of one and a half meters with other people.
  • Proper use of the mask.
  • When coughing or sneezing, cover your mouth and nose with your elbow flexed.
  • Use disposable tissues and throw them away after use.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth, as the hands facilitate transmission.
  • Disinfect surfaces of frequent and common use
  • Avoid contact with people who have symptoms.
  • Avoid crowds.

By following all these steps to the letter you can keep the coronavirus at bay. Although the new normality post-coronavirus is already being experienced in some countries, the ideal is to maintain these preventive measures for a long time.

Wash your hands frecuently - the new normality
Wash your hands frecuently – the new normality

Maintain good physical and mental health in the new normality Post coronavirus

It is no secret to anyone that the coronavirus has affected the world population, in that sense there is a vulnerable population from the point of view of mental health.

That is why it is common for many people to be depressed, with anxiety attacks or end up somatizing with some illness.

People who have an underlying diagnosis of respiratory conditions, diabetes, or high blood pressure are more vulnerable to contracting the virus. For this reason these people should remain at home and if possible maintain telework for a time.

The main thing is to maintain good physical and mental health in the population. To do this you must keep your mind busy.

One of the recommendations is to exercise at home, eat healthy, establish a work routine. Although you should also leave time to watch a movie, play a video game, cook a dessert among others.

Activity and sport for physical well-being
Activity and sport for physical well-being

Technology and its role in the new normality

Information and communication technology better known as ICTs have played an important role in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic.

Although this does not stop here, from now on ICTs will be man’s best ally in his day to day.

Telecommuting is here to stay, both companies and twitter have raised the possibility of long-term work from home for their workers.

On the other hand, learning tools in virtual environments come to conquer educational spaces at all levels.

E-commerce through virtual stores that offer their products and services with home delivery is the most demanded today.

Telehealth and telemedicine also because doctors can spend their queries online.

As we can see, technology has taken a gigantic boost, being the most favored industry in this crisis caused by the coronavirus pandemic. Information technologies in the new normality will be key to maintaining social estrangement and reducing the chances of contagion

Telemedicine: The new normality
Telemedicine: The new normality

The new normality brings us a change …

The coronavirus leaves us a lesson and the new normality considers important changes in how our dynamics were from day to day.

Changes move us out of “the comfort zone” and makes us rethink the way we lead life.

For this reason, we must cultivate relationships with family and friends, to show more empathy with others.

Well, life is ephemeral and this pandemic has already shown us that it does not discriminate between rich, poor, white, black, famous, among others.

This new normality tells us that we must work for a better world and for this we must start with ourselves.

A new paradigm
A new paradigm

The new normality came to stay

The new normality post coronavirus should not be neglected, on the contrary we must continue to apply preventive measures.

From this situation we learned that health is a treasure, that sharing with the family unites us and strengthens us.

Learning something new in free time, without a doubt this time has represented an opportunity to grow as a person.

Soon this situation will be part of the past and we can return to enjoy the air, the sea, the mountains as before …

Cross Country Riding: Equestrian sport

Jul02

In the world of equestrian sports there are a variety of disciplines, in general they are all demanding. However there are some, like cross country riding, that are even more demanding.

To participate in this unique sport, the rider and horse must remain fit and with endurance.

Cross-country its meaning is: “through the countryside”

This is a sport that is made up of the following disciplines:

  • The three-day test or full contest
  • Dressage
  • Finally, the obstacle jump.

It is also practiced in local competitions as an autonomous equestrian discipline.

Without a doubt, a rider-horse duo must be very well trained to perfectly master various disciplines of horseback riding.

Below is a video of one of the cross country riding tours to get acquainted with the event. Enjoy

Ingrid Klimke's leading cross country round #MMBHT 2017

Purpose of cross country

The purpose of this complex equestrian discipline is to experience speed, endurance and jumping ability of the cross country horse.

For this the horse must be very well trained and to the best of its ability in these competitions.

In the same way, the rider must be able to control the passage and ride the cross country.

This is an obstacle course through a natural countryside landscape.

In the dynamics of this competition there are failures that translate into loss of score. Among them we can mention the following mistakes that are made along the way.

  • Do not jump when appropriate
  • Exceed the time limit
  • Fall off the horse, among others.

The rider according to his ability and that of his partner has the possibility of choosing an easier and longer route or a shorter and more complex one.

Cross Country Riding Purpose
Cross Country Riding Purpose

Elements of Cross Country

To carry out this competition, you must have a large space and prepare it for this purpose. This means conditioning a large natural space with terrain irregularities and adding competition-specific obstacles

Tours commonly take the rider through fields and forests. Well these are the ideal spaces for the execution of cross country competitions

The obstacles to be achieved by the magical duo who dares to participate in this complex discipline are the fences. Well, these try to imitate the obstacles that are found when riding through the field, such as hedges, walls, water, among others.

These are solid and do not yield if we collide with them, that is, obstacle do not fall. This last feature makes this discipline more difficult than others

On the other hand it is likely to get obstacles when going down or up hills. Taking as a reference if you chose the long and easy path or the more difficult and short one

Other names given to the Cross Country

The equestrian sport called Cross Country is also known by names like

  • Equestrian jumping country cross
  • Hunter trials

This is a competition made up of three disciplines of horsemanship, being one of the most complex and demanding for the horse – rider pair.

It can also be a competition in its own right, known as hunter trials or simply cross country

The purpose of this competition is to test lightness, firmness and the ability to jump over obstacles.

Similarly, it demonstrates the rider’s knowledge of rhythm and the use of this horse.

Fouls that may be grounds for penalty or elimination

In relation to falls, it has the following consequences:

  • If the rider falls off the horse, it is reason for elimination of the competition
  • In the event that the horse fall is quarter and touches shoulder ground will result in mandatory retirement

Another factor that may be a cause of penalization are:

  • Each second started above the optimal time, rounded to the nearest second: 0.4 sanctions / sec
  • If the authorized time is exceeded (2 × the optimal time) they are excluded from the competition
  • In the United States, going too fast for the level will lead to speed “Failures” : 0.4 penalties / s for each second under the speed failure time
  • Trying to increase one’s time to avoid speed mistakes: This action has 20 penalty points
  • Rider without headgear or a harness strap attached
  • Advance another pilot in progress, putting others and himself at risk.
  • Intentional obstacle of an overtaking competitor
  • If you do not freeze on the road when indicated

Cross country riding a comprehensive discipline.

Cross country as an equestrian discipline is complex because it combines three disciplines in one. Without a doubt this requires a level of training and endurance for both the rider and the horse.

This discipline contains, as an important element, the show jumping, which is the favorite equestrian sport of Gustavo Mirabal and his wife Carolina Chapellín.

So at some point they can be encouraged to compete in cross country. It’s important to take into account proper preparation in the other disciplines that make up cross country.
