The new World Equestrian Games has been postponed to 2022. Currently, its implementation is planned with several places to host disciplines that have been held in one place for 30 years.
During the recent FEI meeting, several decisions were made about the FEI event calendars, which we will review.
Next we will highlight the most important decisions of the conference held in Moscow.
Below is a video about the World Equestrian Games 2010. This represents a milestone in these events as he is the first of the World Equestrian Games hosted outside Europe.
The 2022 World Equestrian Games
At the end of 2018, when FEI opened the bidding process for individual world championships by 2022, he said he would prefer multidisciplinary offers. The intention is that if you get enough complete multidisciplinary offers you could move forward. Go where you will ask yourself? Towards the consolidation of the concept of World Equestrian Games 2022 in one place.
However, the president of the FEI, Ingmar De Vos, emphasized at that time that it did not necessarily mean the end of the concept of the FEI World Equestrian Games.
Having separate offers could allow them to evaluate each location separately and, whether unified or not, guarantee quality.
“The new bidding process allows the sustainable and profitable use of existing equestrian sports facilities. In addition, the FEI is associated with the National Federations that may have hesitated to present multidisciplinary offers previously.
Several locations for the 2022 World Equestrian Games.
“Now the door is open for these federations to consider presenting an expression of interest for an individual world championship in the discipline of their choice,” Igmar De Vos.
Advancing little by little guaranteeing quality has been the slogan of Igmar De Vos. In this way the facilities are modernized. Also those who wish to host the World Equestrian Games are preparing to develop their facilities.
The FEI Board today announced the host cities of the FEI World Championship in 2022. In this way they confirm that several locations would be used for the various tests.
The FEI has spent the last decade in the search for places capable of housing all equestrian disciplines. But the cost and logistical challenges prove to be formidable for some possible hosts.
That is why the way to separate it into several places is a way to prepare host countries. The other step is to encourage the preparation for future World Equestrian Games. This is the road map drawn by Igmar De Vos.
What events are planned to host the Equestrian World Games?
On 17-11, before the FEI General Assembly in Moscow, a conference on discipline assignment was held.
It was confirmed that Jumping, Training, Paralympic Training and Volley (acrobatic riding) will take place in Herning, Denmark, in August 2022.
The Danish city, which organizes a qualifier for the FEI Training World Cup every year. I had previously organized a multidisciplinary equestrian event in 2013. At that time I was organizing the FEI European Championship of Jumping, Training and Skydiving.
Pratoni del Vivaro in Italy hosted the event at the 1960 Rome Olympics. Pratoni will host the world events and driving championships in September 2022.
The place, 35 kilometers from Rome, is accustomed to organizing high-level equestrian events and FEI championships. It was the site of the cross-country competition at the FEI World Equestrian Games in 1998. It also hosted the FEI World Championship for Individuals in 2006 and 2010.
How were the decisions of the headquarters made?
“We opened the process for the FEI 2022 World Championship to unique and multidisciplinary offers. Our intention was to have events that were more manageable and sustainable in proven places.” Sabrina Ibáñez, General Secretary of FEI
“By assigning these multidisciplinary championships to Herning and Pratoni del Vivaro, we are working with the hosts. They already have the necessary experience and the necessary infrastructure to organize world-class equestrian championships. ” Sabrina Ibañez
With this, as we mentioned, the proven physical and organizational infrastructure was used to start the route to the World Equestrian Games.
“We received some really excellent offers.” Sabrina Ibañez
An indication that what prevailed were not the offers but the trajectory. Surely these offers will be the basis for assessing the true organizational capabilities of the bidders and considering them for future events. Little by little, greater responsibility will be given to those who demonstrate capacity.
“Unfortunately we don’t have enough FEI world championships to assign to everyone. We hope that these excellent organizers will bid again in the future to organize championships at their venues.” Sabrina Ibañez
The intention is that the FEI global campoenoates are the apex of the organization. Each country will have to make its efforts to highlight and reach it. Quality and experience were privileged to paper offers.
Classification for Olympic and Paralympic disciplines together
The 2022 world championships in the Olympic and Paralympic disciplines of jumping, event, training and dressage will serve as qualifiers for the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, the FEI said.
The FEI Board unanimously agreed that any decision on the FEI World Championships in Endurance and Reining should be postponed. This awaits the outcome of the discussions and voting in relation to both discussions. In addition, there is an important renewal of the Endurance rules to be voted by the General Assembly.
The FEI Board also assigned the FEI World Cup finals from 2022 to 2024. Leipzig in Germany will organize four FEI World Cup finals under one roof. This event will take place from April 6 to 10, 2022.
The German city previously hosted the same four disciplines: Jumping, Training, Driving and Volley, in 2011.
