Artax the horse: an infinite story

Dec28

In the film industry adaptations of books have been made, which in many cases corresponds to the essence of the book. While in other cases it differs from the message left by these literary works. This is how the endless story, also known as The Endless Story, is a fantastic novel written by the German Michael Ende became an incredible adaptation. There a fabulous horse named Artax and the protagonist Atreyu embark on a fantastic journey to save their world.

This work was published for the first time in German in the year 1979 with the title Die unendliche Geschichte. From there derives the famous film called “The Endless Story” and its subsequent sequels

Artax the horse and the movie

The film “The Endless Story” premiered in 1984, 34 years ago. In addition, the film was a resounding success of his time and generated an extensive literature of associated mythologies. The main one says that in the dramatic scene in which Atreyu and his horse Artax are trapped in the “Pantano de la tristeza”, sinking slowly as they lose hope, the horse-actor effectively drowned.

  • In the process, actor Noah Hattaway suffered the trapping of one of his legs on the platform and his leg was trapped in the elevator and was dragged down swamp over the account until he lost consciousness. He remembered the actor some time later with another pair of accidents in which he fell off a horse and almost lost an eye in the fight against the vampire wolf Gmork.
  • The complicated scene that took 4 weeks and several months of training for the protagonist horse that had to get used to being submerged in the mud, was transformed over time into the myth that the animal had been trapped in the machinery and had died in the filming , which added a halo of greater drama to the saddest scene in the film.

Atreyu a faithful companion of the Artax Horse

Dancing Horses

Dancing Horses: Trust and beauty show

Dec28

The dancing horses are those that offer a show of coordination, elegance and confidence.

In fairs or competitions these stand out for their talent and interaction with the rider.

In this article we will tell you about the horses that dance.

Dancing horses

At least once in a lifetime, people should see a spectacle like that.

The respect, the trust between the tamer and the rider are incredible.

For the Dancing and the Dreaming♥

To teach a horse to dance, the first thing to do is find out what the “piaffe” is.

Well, the “piaffe” is a movement similar to the trot of a horse that holds a point.

Based on years of training, the horse gets to lower his hips, change the weight on his hindquarters and raise his right part following the music, in a natural way. Thus, they can participate in the best “piaffe” competitions in the world.

Teaching to dance

Your horse can also learn to dance. Pay attention to these tricks.

The first thing we will do is take him for a walk. A short walk It’s not about tiring him, but about relaxing him a little. It is known that working with a calm animal is much easier than with a nervous one. The relaxed one will pay attention to us; the nervous one will prefer not to do it.

Then take it to a trot and pull it to get up. Move your shoulders and hips and ask him to put his head up and down. Do it several times, letting it rest a few seconds between exercise and exercise.

Place a halter on the horse and attach it with a rope.

As you are beginning, it will serve a simple halter and a lead; Later you can use a bridle and a chair to connect one side of the rein to the right side of the horse.

To make it easier, you can use both side reins that connect from the fillet ring to the circumference of the same side about 23cms, below the back of the animal.

Tie your tail up with an elastic band so it does not bother you.

Then, stop the horse so that the wall or fence is on your right. Put it on its left side.

With the riding tack, you have to reach your hind legs. You will touch the left hind leg until it rises and then offer it a prize. Repeat this with the right rear leg.

Dancing Horses
Dancing Horses

Near the goal

Next, you will put the bridle or saddle, and the side reins.

Ask him to raise left, right, left, and the rewards. The answer must be quick, but the same, if we see that it costs, we will go back and go more slowly.

It is not about getting the horse to be perfect: perfection does not exist. It is about teaching him something trying to have fun, and he will not do it if we ask him more than he is capable of doing at that moment.

The last thing you will do is touch your front legs. If he is nervous, let him lower his head or let him down; so it will calm down.

On the contrary, if you see it animated, you raise it so that it feels proud. If he behaves well and, above all, if he takes a step that looks like a dance, you give him a deserved prize and let him rest.

The dancing horses are beautiful, they fill us with pride and emotion.

However, you should remember that training sessions should not take more than 10 minutes to prevent the horse from feeling frustrated.

Patience is the key to all this. If you despair, you will not achieve anything.

The dancing horses in Spain

We can see the dancing horses in Spain, yes, especially in the region of Andalusia.

In this area you can see festivals and fairs such as the Horse Festival that is celebrated in Jerez, or Ses Salines (Mallorca) for the festivities of Sant Bartomeu (end of August).

To the sound of Spanish music and costumes of the eighteenth century, generally, the dancing horses and their riders star in an “equestrian ballet” in which they use the technique of dressage or cowgirl, hooks, even jobs in hand and carousel.

The dark side of the dancing horses

Some dance-horse trainers use outdated methods to make horses dance. Using brutality and through fear they hit the horse to “learn” what to do without having the patience and affection towards them. We must be vigilant to denounce this type of attitude and avoid events that make use of this kind of brutality against horses.

The dancing horses are a beautiful art form where the rider and the horse show how wonderful human-animal cooperation can be

Rider with horse
Rider with horse

When practicing equestrian sport, we usually have a set of habits or situations that have made us feel identified, admired and even observed with rarity.

In this installment we will share 8 things that only riders or amazons know because they have ever happened to us.

Riders’ things

1. Weekend’s rest

After a long week of work it is good to rest. But what to do?

You can go to a party with your friends, share, go to the movies, more also involves meeting those special people.

Crazy as it seems, the riders appreciate the company of our equines. That is why many times the rest means: spend time with your horse.

No pressure, no complications, just your friend and you.

2. Uniformed in public places

Given the routine is likely that you have to make purchases in a store and even wear your rider or amazon suit. Had you happened?

If so, I suppose they have been intimidated, but calm, people admire our elegance!

3. “Everything the horse does”

There are those who believe that being a rider is just getting on the horse and that he does everything, in reality, this is not true. We must exercise!

There are training routines that we must follow and as a result our legs and glutes are strong.

The horse alone does what he wants, but when we take the reins we are a team, a binomial.

So, in competitions, does the horse do everything alone?

4. Horse smell

A fragrance without equal!

When working with horses, we usually have a particular aroma that not everyone likes. However, for those of us who love this sport, smelling horses is normal. It’s more if we do not smell at them then we do not go through the barn.

So if you have looked bad for wearing that fragrance, do not worry, it’s normal.

Feel proud! At this point it is possible to think “what do the horses think of our smell?”

5. Horses everywhere!

When equestrian spors are your passion then you see them everywhere you go.

The movies where the equines are protagonists excite you more than the account. Ifyou see photos, magazines, newspapers etc, where equines appear you feel identified.

Passion leads you to be different, to stand out and shine.

6. Love of the horse and not the money

They say that the root of all evil is the love of money so when we have a horse we can not skimp on the price for their care.

The horse requires veterinary care, healthy food, a comfortable place.

We do not have money for any fun. Our investment is in horses. That’s why there we will find our best friends, those who understand our budget…

In the end the expenses are many but they are worth more the satisfactions that they offer us.

His love, tenderness, intelligence and ability to learn are amazing.

7. Any time is good to ride

Be it sunny, rain or snow, it will always be a good day to ride. Any free time is good to enjoy what we like the most. Cinema? Noooo! To ride a horse 🙂

Of course, we should not endanger the animal or our life. First you have to calculate if you can or not, more if the weather does not allow it, we can use it to share with the horse.

8. Friends who speak your same language

Nothing better to share with those passionate about horses like you.

Who better than them will support you, laugh and share your adventures?

It is always good to go out with those who love equestrian sports because we nurture one another.

The strength, the consolation, the alliance, the main motivation we will find in those friends on the block.

Having a horse is perhaps like having a “huge dog” that requires more dedication, more love and more expenses. Not everyone will understand us and therefore great friendships and love arise among lovers of horses. Because these are things that only the riders understand.
